Paul Barclay

Professor Paul Barclay completed his Ph.D. at the California Institute of Technology (2007), where he developed nanophotonic devices for experiments in nonlinear and quantum optics. He then joined Hewlett-Packard Labs, where he studied the emerging field of diamond based quantum nanophotonics technology. Dr. Barclay’s undergraduate degree is in Engineering Physics from the University of British Columbia.

Since forming a research group at the University of Calgary and the National Institute for Nanotechnology in 2011, Dr. Barclay’s research has focused on coupling light to other quantum systems, and has included first demonstrations of diamond nanophotonic devices integrated with ultrahigh quality nanomechanical resonators, GaP devices for nonlinear optics, and silicon nanophotonic devices for inertial and magnetic sensing.
